Lunar Cycle is the latest and most ambitious production to date for a museum by renowned US choreographer Richard Siegal. The interdisciplinary project combines dance, music and visual art to create a month-long performative installation. Lunar Cycle explores human movement as a reaction to climate change over the period of a lunar phase cycle and interweaves geodata of melting polar ice caps with performance, light and projections, sound and live music to create a meditative, multi-sensory experience. On 1,400 square meters, the immersive, performative installation invites visitors to reflect on the effects of human activity on our environment and its repercussions. The choreography is performed live by international dancers from the Folkwang Tanzstudio and the Ballet of Difference as well as a large number of volunteers, while the Musikfabrik Lunar Cycle ensemble provides musical accompaniment.

With pieces by Vicente Atria, John Cage, Ann Cleare, Milica Djordjević, Morton Feldman, Dai Fuikura, Henryk Mikołaj Górecki, Dylan Lardelli, Liza Lim, Simon Martin, Tamara Miller, Cathy Milliken, Sarah Nemtsov, Luigi Nono, Pauline Oliveros, Rebecca Saunders, Giacinto Scelsi, Wadada Leo Smith, Lisa Streich, Gordon Williamson a. o.
