Paeanumnion

Mouse on Mars

How does it work: The connection between the digital and the analogue world? Paeanumnion is about the pooling of acoustic and electronic sounds, about auditory delusions and instrumentally produced electro sounds. On the occasion oft he 25th anniversary of the Cologne Philharmonic, the electro duo Mouse on Mars was commissioned to compose and orchestral work. With the result that a hybrid between contemporary classical and the current electronic music emerged in collaboration with composer and conductor André de Ridder and the soloists of Ensemble Musikfabrik. On 1st November 2014 Mouse on Mars invite Ensemble Musikfabrik to stage Paeanumnion for the second time in Germany at their birthday festival 21 AGAIN in Berlin.

Commissioned by KölnMusik | Supported by Kuratorium KölnMusik and Kunststiftung NRW

Composition: Mouse on Mars | concept & realisation: Mouse on Mars & André de Ridder | orchestration: Stefan Streich with Brigitta Muntendorf and André de Ridder

De Umbris Idearum … The acousmatic memory palace

De Umbris Idearum… The Acousmatic Memory Palace is the second collaboration between Mouse on Mars and Ensemble Musikfabrik. The mystical piece begins with electronic sounds in total darkness, pointing to the ‘acousmatic’ aspect in the subtitle which refers to the fact that the origin of sound is invisible. The use of computer controlled robot musicians (Simon Geist, Sonic Robots) underlines this alienation between sound and its source. Light installations that respond to the music also form part of the installation.

De Umbris Idearum … The acousmatic memory palace was supported by Kunststiftung NRW during Campus Musikfabrik.
