The subtle intricate sounds that are passed between oboe and violin in this masterpiece are absolutely breathtaking. Barely audible dyads and air tones along with flautando bowing sounds seem to emerge out of nothing before they eventually vanish. There is an ever present beauty and delicateness in this piece that are highlighted by a combination of physical distance between the instruments and a fascinating amalgamation of sound and tone colors. The work and collaboration with Rebecca Saunders over decades has been a pleasure and a high point in my musical career.
