Kölner Chaos Orchester

Where the unpredictable becomes music.

What began as a bold experiment in the spring of 2025 is now a vibrant community: After two exhilarating project phases, the Cologne Chaos Orchestra (KCO) has firmly established itself in Cologne and now meets regularly to break new ground together.
We make music that doesn’t care about conventions. With us, it’s new, improvised, composed, quiet, loud, wild, and—yes—wonderfully crazy. The KCO is a sound experiment where cultural boundaries blur and, in the end, only one thing matters: the unifying power of music.

The KCO at a glance

Who can join? Truly anyone. With or without an instrument, with lots of experience or none at all.
When do we meet? Twice a month, alternating between weekdays and weekends. You’ll find out the exact dates after signing up.
Do I have to be there every time? No. You can come regularly or just drop by to check it out whenever it works for you.
What does it cost? A contribution based on your own assessment (solidarity principle). If you don’t have the means right now, we’ll find a solution.

A participatory utopia

This might sound like a utopia. But for us, it’s reality. The KCO is an open format that thrives on your initiative and your contributions. It’s fantastic to see our community grow—and you can become a part of it at any time.

  • No barriers: No matter your age, background, or gender—you’re welcome.
  • No prior knowledge required: You can come with your instrument or just your curiosity. Whether you’re a pro or a complete beginner, everyone finds a place in our sound.
  • Flexible & free: We’re not a rigid rehearsal setup. We meet every two weeks (sometimes during the week, sometimes on the weekend) to work in a playful and free way. Only when a concert is on the horizon do we focus our energy and rehearse specifically for the performance.

Solidarity as a foundation

To ensure the KCO remains open to everyone, we support the project together. We invite you to contribute to our sliding-scale fee within your means.
Why sliding scale? Because we want everyone to be able to participate, regardless of their financial situation. Simply choose the amount that fits your situation. And if you’re really struggling financially right now: Talk to us in confidence. We’ll find a solution, even if that means waiving the contribution. No one is left out because of a lack of funds.
