Noh is a contemporary theatre practice that includes both music and drama and originates in 14th century Japan. Its performance context were rituals in the buddhist and shinto religion, for example to pray for recovery from illness. Since we’re currently suffering from the consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic, Ryoko Aoki has collaborated with international composers to develop new pieces for Noh voice. Their performance can hence be understood as a prayer for the end of the pandemic.
