Executive Director (m/f/d)

Ensemble Musikfabrik is hiring for the position of executive director (m/f/d) as of September 1, 2025.

This responsible full-time position includes the artistic management of Ensemble Musikfabrik and the business management of the Musikfabrik Landesensemble Nordrhein-Westfalen e.V (registered association).

Ensemble Musikfabrik is a collective of 15 musicians who, in collaboration with the executive director, are responsible for artistic and business decisions.

In all artistic matters, the executive director works closely with the artistic committee, which consists of three ensemble musicians.

The employer is the supporting association of the Ensemble Musikfabrik Landesensemble Nordrhein-Westfalen e.V, whose board of directors bears overall financial responsibility.

  • Your responsibilities as managing director include:
  • Responsibility for artistic and strategic planning in consultation with representatives of the ensemble
  • Annual budget, working with the administrative management in financial planning
  • Management of the office team of 10 employees
  • Cooperation with the board of trustees of the supporting association
  • Acquisition of concerts and development of artistic partnerships and collaborations
  • Securing and developing the financing of the ensemble
  • Representing the ensemble and its interests in dealings with artistic partners, the state of NRW, the city of Cologne, other financiers and partners, audiences, and publicity

For these tasks, you should have the following profile:

  • You find New Music both exciting and challenging
  • Experience in the development and acquisition of contemporary concerts and other formats, as well as the associated outreach, distribution, and communication strategies
  • Teamwork and leadership abilities
  • Networking skills
  • Language ability in German and English
  • In-depth knowledge of contemporary music and its production conditions
