Studio Musikfabrik x Bangkok 2020

In spring 2020, Studio Musikfabrik again visited the Princess Galyani Vadhana Institute of Music, with which a long-standing partnership already exists. To celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Goethe Institute Bangkok, as well as the anniversary year of the 250th birthday of Ludwig van Beethoven, two young musicians played two concerts together with the Princess Galyani Vadhana Youth Orchestra conducted by Peter Veale. On this occasion, a memorandum was also signed in the presence of Prof. Dr. H.C. Lehmann, the President of the Goethe-Institut, in which the bilateral academic and cultural exchange work was again solemnly emphasized and agreed upon for further years. We are very happy about this positive outlook and look forward to many more inspiring encounters between the young musicians.

Julia Pesavento, cellist of Studio Musikfabrik, talks about her formative impressions and about her unique experience.

What struck me most during my time in Bangkok was the enormous hospitality in Thailand and how incredibly nice the people there are. When I sometimes came to the hostel in the evening with the cello from the institute and a staff member saw that, he immediately came up to me, took the instrument from me and carried it to my room on the 4th floor. Even when Mats and I were at the institute, students came in between and kept bringing us drinks and accompanying us to all the appointments.
I was very impressed by the orchestra rehearsals. All the things Peter said were immediately implemented to the next rehearsal and we noticed a clear progress. The musical education at the institute is very similar to our education in Germany. The students in Bangkok have theory lessons just like we do, composition; chamber music plays a big role for them and they have a lot of orchestra projects. In addition, I have met many students who often and gladly play contemporary music.

I am very grateful to have had the opportunity to be part of this project. Because we mainly only had rehearsals in the evenings, we had enough time to also get to know a bit of Thai culture and the very diverse city of Bangkok.
In addition, I was able to make many new contacts and will definitely visit one or the other.
