Juditha Haeberlin about Elena Mendoza

“I first met Elena Mendoza ten years ago as we were working together on one of her pieces and it was truly inspiring. When I had the wonderful opportunity to for the first time offer a work commission to someone, I had to think back to the work with her. I was curious as to what Elena would write for me, ten years after having worked together for the first time. Language is an important factor in Elena’s compositional work. I love it when I can get to know other performative elements in works for solo violin for example speaking, singing, gestures etc. In 2014 I was able to give to world premiere of Die Macht der Gewohnheit for speaking violinist. Elena pushed me to the limits of my vocal capacities but it was well worth it.”
